LGBT+ History Month is fast approaching, and we have some events and updates in the work!

First and foremost, welcome to the Stewards of Pittsburgh Pride! We have officially changed our name. While we did enjoy “The Holiday Pride” it was a placeholder until we knew who we were and what we could do for the community.

Our new name comes with a few other updates. Our Misson and Vision have updated, and we have included a new page. From here on out, The Stewards of Pittsburgh Pride (or SOPP) will be focused on helping the community!

There are so many archives and personal collections of LGBT+ history across the city that we believe our purpose and efforts are best suited in doing what we can to help the community and those archives organize, protect, and promote their LGBT+ artifacts.

Even individuals are welcome to contact us for help. You don’t have to commit to an exhibit or placing your personal items in an archive. We’re here to help you however you need it.

Keep an eye on our website as we update things and add more to our repertoire of archival practices!

That’s not all we’ve been up to!

We’ve been planning a few events. In October, we will be attending the Zine faire once again this year!

We have a few new additions to our collection of zines. If you want to come support us and see all of the other lovely works made by local zine artists, head to the Kingsley Association on Frankstown Ave. on October 18th!

Additionally, we have been invited to the state’s capitol, Harrisburg, to attend an LGBT+ mixer. We’re very honored to attend and chat with the state archives and other LGBT+ historians. Keep an eye on our social media for updates on our adventures in Harrisburg!

Next up, November 1st, we were invited to the Carnegie Library’s Local History Day! We’re very honored with the invitation and can’t wait to participate!

Our oral history pop-up exhibit: Quite Pittsburgh, will be on display along with some artifacts we borrowed from some of the archives we’ve worked with in the city. We’ll have a longer post about the pop-up and the artifacts after the event!

The event will take place at the Carnegie Library Main campus on November 1st. We’ll have a table full of our oral histories but also some artifacts from some of the archives we’ve worked with! Come see what we’ll have on display and keep an eye on our and the library’s social media to stay in the know!

As for the website, our goal is to finish up season three of our podcast and take a break from it for a little bit. We’ve got many projects in the works and need that time to work on those projects to the best of our ability. So, for a bit, we won’t have dedicated podcast episodes, although we will upload some more oral histories from our collection.

We will continue to post blog posts, book reviews, and new exhibits and updates to the website, so keep on the lookout! We’re hoping to start back up the podcasts before the end of the year, but we may wait until January for the next season to begin.

Thank you for sticking with us as we transition to this new phase of our journey. Everyone is always welcome to reach out and ask us anything!
